Born in Canada in 1947.

After graduating from high school in Minnesota, I attended Mount Royal College Conservatory of Music, Calgary and Banff School of Fine Arts, Banff, Alberta and Art courses in Germany.  I am entirely a self taught artist and I see life through romantic lenses and convey optimistic interpretations of my surroundings and travels. Even so, either art or music will compete for my love on any given day.  Deeply influenced by Auguste Renior, Vincent Van Gogh, Klimt and Marc Chagall, I also quite like the Art Nouveau style. My art is a blend of naive whimsy and impressionist wonder expressed in a richly sensuous style that resonates with the hearts of my viewers.

My medium is watercolour, gouache, oils, gold foil, fabric and pen and ink.

“Virginia Hemingson’s art expresses the nature of the Canadian Rockies. Mountain beauty, folklore and fascinating local stories come together in the warmth and texture of her vibrant and whimsical work. Hemingson’s talented hand offers a personal impression of Rocky Mountain ambience informed by past and present. The Log Cabin Art Studio makes a creative retreat back to the rustic times when nature lovers like Mary Schaffer and Annora Brown came to the  Rockies to paint. Virginia Hemingson is one of these explorers and an authentic mountain woman who joins the worlds of art and nature.”
